Firefox Sync is end-to-end-encrypted with only one password. That Google requires two is a design choice.
- Fnoord 9y agoMozilla changed this somewhere down the line (I don't know when). Firefox Sync, back when it was called Mozilla Weave, used 2 passwords.
- Sylos 9y agoI don't remember that too precisely anymore, but are you sure that you're not thinking of the identifier? It used to be pretty cryptic by itself. Now they use the e-mail address as identifier.
- Fnoord 9y agoMaybe I'm confused with some other services. Various services went from 2 passwords to 1. I did find this on their wiki: https://wiki.mozilla.org/CloudServices/Sync/FxSync/Archived/Weave_FAQ https://wiki.mozilla.org/CloudServices/Sync/FxSync/Archived/... interesting tidbit that you could host it yourself. Not sure if you still can.
- Sylos 9y agoYou can: https://github.com/mozilla-services/syncserver https://github.com/mozilla-services/syncserver I hear, it's not that easy to setup, though, as Mozilla only really needed to set it up for themselves a handful of times, probably.
