The author is not a victim. A "meticulous FB feed peruser" is at best a by-stander. Why wait passively for a FB post? A simple "I haven't heard from you for awhile, what's up?" text or call or even message on FB messenger would be far more effective. It's not an asshole move to choose to use facebook to keep in touch with "friends", but it's pretty naive to make it the only way to keep in touch with someone you truly, actually care about (that's another issue...). Hopefully the author learns something from this unfortunate event.
