Plus, when they cut out it's actual silence. When FM cuts out it's a little bit of a fade in or static or fade out. Sure both are bad but there's just something about the silence during a digital broadcast interference that is just horrible.
- firethief 9y agoYeah, interruption with noise is much less disruptive than interruption with silence. It's not a drawback of the technology though; it's a design flaw in the receiver not to mask the dropouts with some white noise.
- LeoPanthera 9y agoMy car's XM (digital satellite in the US) radio generates artificial white noise when the signal drops out. If the signal doesn't come back within a couple of seconds, then you get silence. I'm told GSM phone calls do the same thing, apparently so you can tell the difference between a temporary dropout and a dead line. It's kinda funny.
