- yasp 9y agoyes. at least with BTC you have an audit trail.
- pmorici 9y agoSays right in the article that they also caught her trying to sneak $9,500 USD in cash out of the country on her person. This is a non-story not sure why it was even worth reporting. Perhaps it was notable because it is one of the few instances where someone actually used a crypto currency to send money to alleged terrorists as opposed to the thousands of known cases where they used EUR or USD. She probably had to fly the cash to them because her BTC transaction was stuck in the mempool.
- _red 9y agoDo you remember this story: https://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/12/world/investigation-into-missing-iraqi-cash-ended-in-lebanon-bunker.html https://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/12/world/investigation-into-... US Gov sent $14B in cash, on pallets, shrink wrapped. All went missing...whoops. Nothing was done, nobody cared.
- redblacktree 9y agoI do remember that. I did care. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to do anything about it.
- jacobr 9y agoI found it notable not because of the Bitcoin transactions themselves, but because of the implications and possible effects of news like this.
- em3rgent0rdr 9y ago"Her lawyer, Steve Zissou, said she was sending money overseas to help Syrian refugees."
- rashthedude 9y agoIn similar news "CNN" uncovered that Al-qaeda is indeed the biggest stakeholder of Bitcoin
- sp4ke 9y agoI've read rumours that Satoshi was a close person to Kim Jong Un, probably some conspiracy theory
- sp4ke 9y agoI'm even surprised we didn't have this kind of news already. It's a predicted behavior for governments, let's how anti-fragile the system is (grabs popcorn)
