The main disadvantage of serverless though is the need to learn an entirely new tech stack, and one that is locked in to AWS. Migrating a large (or medium sized) Django app to Lambda has non-trivial cost in terms of engineering time. Also the Lambda stack is less well known, which may cause some challenges for the engineering team (ramp-up time for new hires, etc.)
- philliphaydon 9y agoHow is a c# lambda an entirely new tech stack if you already use .net core?
- tjbiddle 9y agoEh - I wouldn't say an entirely new tech stack. The main difference is breaking your components into microservices; after that - you just need a wrapper for your serverless provider of choice. The majority of the logic should be reusable though.
