There are plenty of bottlenecks in python. If you're really concerned about performance, maybe python isn't the tool you're looking for.

    Gil? The fact that almost everything is a PyObject and requires allocation?

      It's not that bad if you have just a few hot paths. They can be written in Cython or Numba without much trouble.
