Oh my god yes. I grew up in a mixed race household in Michigan (still happy in my little corner here), but the absurdity of how non-white people are treated in the more rural areas of the state, and even the more conservative urban areas, is just shameful. That's not to say you can't find good places in the Midwest, you just have to shop around to find an educated cosmopolitan community. But the racism here is out of hand and I don't think white people are generally attuned to just how bad it is.
