I didn't sell a ton, but I got a call from my bank about the first deposit from Coinbase. They asked how I came about the funds, where my initial investment came from (employment) and that was it. Though my bank did invest in Coinbase so they are probably pretty ahead of the times.

Isn't that also mandatory for them to ask from the government / IRS point of view?

  I'm not really sure, over $10k they are obligated to file suspicious activity reports if warranted, so they might have been doing due diligence.
