Ask HN: Which language should I learn next?
I am experienced with C++, .NET, and TypeScript. Which of the new faddy functional languages (e.g., Clojure, Scala, OCaml, Fable, Elixir, etc) should I learn next. In your estimation, which would give me the most bang for my efforts, and why?
I am mostly interested in how expressive the typing system is and how easy it is to write correct concurrent programs
- wdiamond 9y agoYou don't need tô learn more language. Go create a product.
- vforgione 9y agoI have been working with Elixir for a couple months and I just adore it! I found it easy to get up to speed and working competently in a relatively short amount of time. The ecosystem, docs and developer community are robust and getting stronger. I also think that Phoenix will be the next big backend framework, so getting a handle on Elixir in general will help make you a stronger candidate (if you’re interested in web technologies).
