The consensus rules of bitcoin are supposed to be incredibly difficult to change. That's a feature, not a bug. Changing consensus rules is only easy if the network is centralized. That's not something I want to have in my money. If new technology demonstrates it's value beyond doubt, upgrading the network will have vast consensus.
