- IncRnd 9y agoAnd then you still can't quote a poem without double linespacing, because blank lines are paragraphs, and line breaks are ignored. The HN markup is really lacking. Some say the world will end in fire, Some say in ice. From what I’ve tasted of desire I hold with those who favor fire. But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate To say that for destruction ice Is also great And would suffice.
- musage 9y agoWhen the lines are short, that works, but when lines are longer, mobile users complain. You can't start a fire sitting 'round crying over a broken heart This gun's for hire Even if we're just dancing in the dark You can't start a fire worrying about your little world falling apart (these aren't very long I know, but it's not hard to imagine/find longer ones) And when using it for code and only code, as per "official instructions", you can't. Line 1 Line 2 > Line 1 > Line 2
- IncRnd 9y agoI get it. I was showing that the double space doesn't happen between quoted lines.
- dredmorbius 9y agoMarkdown provides for this by double-spacing at the end of a line to indicate a hard wrap. https://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/syntax#p https://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/syntax#p
- musage 9y agoThat's genius, and would be such a neat addition to HN.
