It seems the world has come full circle. This seems to be a close analogue of the Macartney Embassy(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macartney_Embassy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macartney_Embassy) that went to China in 1793. Except that now the kowtow has been replaced by placating speeches.
