People now routinely order all their gifts and appliances online; small things as well as large purchases are made online. Television is consumed less and less and in an effort to maintain viewership the 24 hour news cycle has become the norm. In many countries, person to person market exchanges are now carried out through the internet and phones, enabling more, and more flexible, businesses.
Taxis have been supplemented and are being replaced by car services you summon with a tap from your phone. The music industry has been completely re-made. There are a large variety of new types of jobs including digital marketing, design and programming positions that didn't previously exist.
Millions of people have some kind of robot servant, either a vacuum cleaner like Roomba or a concierge type like Alexa.
- saiya-jin 9y agoMillions of people sounds precisely like 0.1% of human population. Let's not forget Aibo was available since 1999 and Alexa is unavailable to >90% of world population because it's in english (plus its a crap buggy product far from ideal what this article describes). You're proving my point - things you listed were mostly completely there by 2005 (internet shopping? much earlier. person to person exchanges? did it in 90s online too). I don't claim world is static, that's impossible by principle. But all you list is either insignificant to vast majority of population or just evolved and matured (people moved from mp3 collections to spotify... so what? You still have some small device for music. And i keep my flacs and using internet radio just like before. No revolution there) I see this wish for progress all the time, who wouldn't like to live in the future. It will come, but not as described, and NOT in 10-15 years.
