I have more confidence putting 'bad' code into production if it has good comprehensive tests, vs 'good' code into production with no tests. Re type of tests, I think the most useful type tend to be end-to-end, that is testing the end usage. also anecdotally, engineers who focus too much on code quality tend to miss the big picture
