My setup was pretty cheap: an EdgeRouter X for £50 and an AP AC Lite for about £70 (I think). The X is surprisingly good for such a small/low price router. Took me a couple of months to get it configured how I wanted (split ISP/VPN networks across both cabling and wifi) but it has been very solid ever since.
When I move to a bigger place I'll probably put the router behind a big PoE switch and buy some of the 48v PoE compatible APs. We use them in work and they've been very good so far.
