We desperately need a revolution in storing energy. I have big hopes towards magnesium batteries
- hutzlibu 9y agoI am still hoping for a breakthrough in (methan) fuel cells and electrolysis. Storing, transporting and refilling batteries would be really easy then, also in big amounts. Main problem is still just the fuel cell (and the counterparts). Expensive, short life cycle, low efficiency (for non building sized ones)
- StreamBright 9y agoI am curious what is going to win the storing huge amount of energy in a small place that is safe competition.
- Robotbeat 9y agoHonestly, we don't. Folks like Tesla/Panasonic and LGChem are only like 10-30% cost improvement away from being able to compete everywhere. And energy densities are also pretty good on well-engineered battery packs. Good enough for everything but long haul aircraft IMHO. Evolution, not revolution.
- StreamBright 9y agoWe don't? If battery capacity was developing the same pace as CPU performance you would charge your iPhone once a year.
- dTal 9y agoThat's about 10 megajoules, which would make faulty battery explosions very exciting!
- StreamBright 9y agoThis is why we need a revolution not a minor improvement, I think. :)
