Yes marriage doesn’t work whenever the gender demographics gets extreme. My favourite example is the Paraguayan War [1] when almost all the men of Paraguay were killed.

- sparrish 9y agoEven though the gender imbalance is long gone from that war, there's still an attitude among Paraguayan women that there aren't enough men around and they'll have to share. Wife and a mistress or two is pretty common still. (Lived there for several years)
