I always install security updates as soon as they are released but I do not and I advise my friends not to upgrade to the latest major release right when it's been released. I still remember the update to el capitan destroying my filevault with all my files (luckily I had backup). Recent major releases from OS X introduce regressions and are bug ridden for the first 6 months.
