I imagine what Yelp really want is to track footfall and IRL behaviors via MAC addresses. You do not need to attempt to connect to the wifi for them to obtain this, merely walk/move past the restaurant. This will let them know your movements in meatspace (‘you’ being the derived identifier, until/unless they pay/trade-with a data broker for enrichment). While both Apple and Google have boasted about MAC address randomization for years, it’s always been crap, and still is[1].
