The languages which almost became css
- jrobn 9y agoI never understood the hatred for lisp’s use of parens. They effectively fade into the background in a relatively short period of time. Lack of syntax is a feature.
- Hupriene 9y agoAny language where you don't have to memorize a precedence and associativity table just to read the code gets +1 in my book.
- magpi3 9y agoI used DSSSL straight out of college. It wasn't the parens. Scheme just takes time to wrap your mind around and it seems so opaque when you are coming from the world of C and Java as I was. I was incredibly intimidated by it, and so were my fellow programmers. We used it and it worked, but no one felt that they fully understood it under the hood. CSS is just so dead simple in comparison. Classic example of worse is better IMO.
- smelendez 9y agoI think I'm glad CSS isn't an actual scripting language, Scheme-based or otherwise.
- schindlabua 9y agoFunny, now I am stuck with a TFS -> grunt -> sass -> css workflow and it's still less featureful than a modern DSSSL would have been. Somebody write a proposal to make it a web standard! It looks lovely.
