Amazon hasn't been operating at a loss. They have been reinvesting all the profits into expansion: eg. warehouses, shipping, webservices, etc, which have intrinsic value. Thus their balance sheets showed losses. Uber has been "investing" in expanding the customer base, but, this expansion has been a money giveaway. Also, customers can walk whenever they want to.
