Yeah I can absolutely relate to that. Not sure about C# being more motivating (from some limited experiments I made), but php is definitely not an inspiring language. Or it leads your inspiration elsewhere, like generating code and only using php as a target language, etc. But over time having a language with a limited feature set is kind of a plus too, just because you can't get too crazy either, and it's easier to read other people's code and introduce new team members.
