Here's an article I wrote about what each of us can do about it : https://climate.btmx.fr/en/ https://climate.btmx.fr/en/
TL;DR: Don't eat meat, insulate your home, limit use of fossil fuel powered transportation, advocate change.
- zaarn 9y ago>Don't eat meat If the choice is bacon or global warming... I think I'll stock up on some A/C units for my home.
- autopoiesis 9y agoI do not know if you are joking here, but I suspect many people do think indeed like this. It is simply astonishingly selfish and irresponsible. Individual actions together make up population trends, and minimizing meat consumption and energy waste are things that you can do that really would have a big impact in aggregate on our future environment.
- zaarn 9y agoI am an astonishingly selfish and irresponsible person, thank you very much. I consider meat production to not be one of the large issues of global warming we have to solve, there are bigger priorities to address, last I checked, meat production contributes not that much to it compared to some other outputs.
- pvaldes 9y ago> Don't eat meat In some cases, this is a more ideological than practical suggestion. Will necessarily improve the climatic change problem?. Probably not: Agriculture consume and needs a lot of water, and lots of fuel also and require to devoid the production area of other plants (whereas many old and very big oaks are respected and have a place because pigs eat accorns). Change a truck moving sheeps with the same Kg in Vegetables, nothing changes in term of fuel saved. In fact as vegetables are less dense, you would need to move more Kg for providing enough calories for the same people (because lattices are basically water).
- passiveincomelg 9y agoWhat about methane? I can't find the source right now, but I read somewhere that animals fart more than plants.
- pvaldes 9y agoThis is a valid point, yes. But it seems that plants are able to emit methane also: Methane emissions from terrestrial plants under aerobic conditions.
