For a long time I was quite skeptical of a lot of claims about superintelligence, largely because people pushing the idea tend to make a bunch of absurd extrapolations. And, honestly, I'd rather believe that we'll get a slow, safe ramp-up than a risky explosion. But the thing that keeps getting at me is that the no-explosion arguments I've seen are universally terrible (this article, for example), and pro-explosion arguments, though far from universally so, are sometimes strong. At some point the conclusion is inevitable.
