I have an i7 quad core sandy bridge in my laptop, and I just casually play games, generally older games I pick up for cheap during steam sales. I do some somewhat heavy development on the box, but have never felt a need to upgrade at all. When I bought it in early 2011, I knew I was on a next-gen architecture that would last me awhile, but I really didn't think that 7 years later the only reason I would want a new laptop is because the bezels and overall size seem clownishly large by today's standards.
