Ask HN: What are yours thoughts about ScuttleButt as a Facebook alternative?

I posted a question yesterday about Amazon creating a Facebook competitor, which will most likely never happen. However, what would something that already exists like https://www.scuttlebutt.nz/ will eventually morph into that. The founder seems to be heading in this direction based on his Twitter ( https://twitter.com/andrestaltz ). Maybe I'm wrong? I'm still curious as to why it seems so many people complain about Facebook (data collection, Russian Propaganda, sketchy past) yet so few people would actually leave. Is it a problem of a vocal minority? People are generally hypocrits? Both? Something else?
