I remember bending out of shape trying to code a program for my mother to help with her (short lived) cross-stitching adventures. Gave up and discovered program (lot's of them as a matter of fact) which prepared excel sheets from image files and decided on colours based on thread manufacturer catalogs. I'll say cross-stitchers beat everyone to it.
