TLS doesn't hide destination IP addresses
- 0xcde4c3db 9y agoMost forms of encryption also do very little to effectively conceal which application-layer protocols are in use, which has implications for ISPs with incentives to degrade BitTorrent, third-party VoIP, etc.. edit: It occurs to me that I'm apparently goddamn old now, and a good few HNers of 2017 might be too young to remember the whole Comcast/Sandvine/BitTorrent mess [1], viz. the history of this not being a hypothetical concern. - RandomInteger4 9y agoNot only that, but I'm seeing a lot of people mentioning VPNs as a solution when they're really not. Sure VPNs obfuscate your destination, but not the fact that you're connecting to a VPN, and without net neutrality, what's stopping them from seriously deteriorating the quality of VPN traffic unless the VPNs cough up some dough?
