It is happening, and will continue to happen and it seems to me there is really nothing we can do short of drastically restructuring the entire Internet. Let's say we've lost so far, but certainly we can change. Europe, for example, has much stronger protections than the U.S. Laws cleaned up the environment in cities, brought a revolution in civil rights to billions .... certainly we can provide privacy to end users if we put our minds to it. (I'm not saying it will be easy.)
