Very happy to read this article which materializes the elephant in my mind. My tldr; for it is:
* technical vision (and therefore core tech decisions)
should match business vision and be justifiable,
manifested by making architecture choices driven by thinking
about constraints and working at high level as best as one can
to get around them, rather than jumping straight to eager-
architecturing to solving the non-existent problems only the
likes of massive tech companies face.
Some suggestions that made were include:
* Try to re-use for speed, rather than roll-out-your-own,
* Design for adaptability
I think I agree. It sounds like the right thing to do. I hope the author follows up with multiple case studies of varying degrees of how this is happening in industry, and what he thinks could have been the right approach.
I also think that this might be just one side of the coin. I am really interested in hearing opinions that constrast his.
