As opposed to what? Prototype-based is a form of OOP: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prototype-based_programming https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prototype-based_programming And "functional programming language" would be way too fine a point, like calling Ruby an FP language.
