Would this be possible as a Facebook app? That would help get past the initial chicken and egg problem any project like this would have. I'm about an hour away from the nearest decent sized city so something like this would be useful for finding new circles of friends in my area. At the moment I meet new friends through existing friends. While I've met many great people this way I do find it's difficult to meet people who share particular interests that my current social circle doesn't have.
