C++ has had the same problem ever since C++11(or even since its inception, if you consider it as an evolution of C). It also has the same solution - you don't have to chase the latest standard if you don't want to, thanks to an excellent history of backwards-compat. People do it because the new stuff is legitimayely better, not just out of some fad.
