So now someone could try to setup an optical link between those points. I wonder would it be a bit easier then a straight photograph?

  An optical link between two distant peaks that'll be almost always unavailable due to atmospheric conditions and weather? For what purpose?

    A distant landscape photography that is almost always not possible due to atmospheric conditions and weather? For what purpose? It does not have to be a permament link, but a fun extension to the idea.

    At the very least it would identify some category of atmospheric conditions when the link is up. And lasers. If I ever figure out how to squeeze lasers into a project, it's a done deal.
