These leaks are juicy and all, but have our oligarchs had to change anything as a result of them? What were the big effects of the Panama Papers?

- brown9-2 9y agoThe biggest thing I can think of is the Prime Minister of Iceland resigning.
- wallace_f 9y agoWasnt SK's record-breaking protests an indirect result of the Panama Papers?
- ionised 9y agoNo, their civil unrest was due to an issue with their president being under the thrall of a cult figure and the corruption between government and various Chaebols. There may have been some South Koreans mentioned in the Panama Papers, but their protests started way before those leaks dropped.
- fragmede 9y agoNo, it didn't cause a Fight Club/Mr. Robot-style overnight collapse of capitalism, but it did force a number of politicians and business people in a number of different countries to step down and face fines. Pakistan in particular disqualified their Prime Minister, in what was called a "defining moment" for the country. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reactions_to_the_Panama_Papers https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reactions_to_the_Panama_Papers
- fjsolwmv 9y agoSo, a few scapegoats got turned out, an business as usual continued.
- patall 9y agoI do not quite understand what you want to tell us with such a comment? So what? If injustice is done, but we were not able fix it the last time it was brought up, we should just let it be? (And honestly, I am also surprised that something like this shows up on hackernews. (In 2007:) Why does Apple come up with a touch screen mobile phone, those did not make profit the last time they come up. (Early 2010s:) Why does Musk invent an electric car, those things disappeared after the 20s for a reason.)
