In under the impression that the US acts as an imperial power firstly because it's very integrated into the world economically and diplomatically so it works hard to protect those interests. It's easy to say that the US shouldn't have to do these things but it seems that the US involving themselves pretty heavily in world politics is good for them even if the overall effect on others is more debatable (especially with some large missteps recently)
