makes it cheaper for everyone else
- mikeash 9y agoHow?
- return0 9y agodo i need to go full economics 101 ?
- mikeash 9y agoApparently. Facebook doesn't cost the ISP anything to provide, and in fact it costs the ISP extra to implement site-specific rules like this, so they don't save any money providing service to people who choose not to use Facebook. The ISP therefore has no reason to reduce their price.
- return0 9y agotelecom charges worldwide have little to do with bandwidth cost https://broadbandnow.com/report/much-data-really-cost-isps/ https://broadbandnow.com/report/much-data-really-cost-isps/
- mikeash 9y agoAre you going to tell me what’s does have to do with charges that would cause these to decrease?
- return0 9y agoobviously the need to fill their profit margin.
- mikeash 9y agoBecause they need to fill their profit margin, they would lower prices?
- return0 9y agosome prices go up, some others will have to go down, assuming that the profit margin remains the same. Diversification, how is that not obvious?
- mikeash 9y agoWhy would they keep it the same when they could make it higher?
- return0 9y agoWhy don't they raise the rates already then? Net neutrality is stopping them?
- mikeash 9y agoThey've presumably decided that raising rates further would cost more customers than it would be worth. Stupid tricks like cutting down on the "standard" package and rolling those things into upgrades is a common way for companies to raise rates without appearing to, therefore losing fewer customers.
