- mikeash 9y agoWhat makes the choice to pay extra for Facebook superior to having it included?
- deleted 9y ago[deleted]
- return0 9y agomakes it cheaper for everyone else
- mikeash 9y agoHow?
- return0 9y agodo i need to go full economics 101 ?
- mikeash 9y agoApparently. Facebook doesn't cost the ISP anything to provide, and in fact it costs the ISP extra to implement site-specific rules like this, so they don't save any money providing service to people who choose not to use Facebook. The ISP therefore has no reason to reduce their price.
- return0 9y agotelecom charges worldwide have little to do with bandwidth cost https://broadbandnow.com/report/much-data-really-cost-isps/ https://broadbandnow.com/report/much-data-really-cost-isps/
- mikeash 9y agoAre you going to tell me what’s does have to do with charges that would cause these to decrease?
- return0 9y agoobviously the need to fill their profit margin.
- craigvn 9y agoBecause it is not included. You would purchase a base package for say $20 a month, then start adding the apps you want for another $5 a month each. $$profit$$
- zAy0LfpBZLC8mAC 9y agoNothing is bad about consumers having more choice, what made you think that? And what does that have to do with net neutrality?
- return0 9y agohow is it not related? It's literally in the title of an article talking about a company offering more options to its users.
- ricardobeat 9y agoWhat larger speeds? Yours, and overall bandwidth remains the same regardless of what you access.
- return0 9y agocheaper rates, so i could afford larger speeds. come on, you 're better than that. (i' m seriously looking for counterarguments i haven't heard)
- zAy0LfpBZLC8mAC 9y agoHow would subsidising services that you don't use possibly reduce prices for the stuff that you do use?!
- return0 9y agowho is subsidising what?
