The only way to get good at something is to suck at it for a long time. Also, according to my 10th grade teacher, don't put 'I think or I believe before a sentence. Of course, you think it and you believe it, you wrote it.' That is very profound.
- maxerickson 9y agoI often write "I think" in order to communicate my awareness that something is just my opinion.
- nickjj 9y agoThat's exactly how I see it too. "I think" is more like a suggestion. It makes you come off as less confrontational. If I wrote "The #1 rule is to write more" then suddenly my tone switches to: "I'm an authority on the subject and this is a fact". That is not what I wanted to say here. This is why communication is so interesting. Very subtle changes can completely change the tone of a message.
- ashark 9y agoOver-communicating the obvious to avoid wasting time responding to poor readers (and nitpicking, point-scoring morons) is a bad writing habit many of us pick up, over years of posting in online forums where such wastes of time constitute the majority of posts.
