  Well, for writing Kotlin. But Google chose to implement it officially.

    They said they will support it officially, which means they are in conversations with JetBrains to make it stable in Android Studio. They didn't implement a thing in the language, not even the plugins for android studio. A lot of developers were already using kotlin before google announced anything.

      But it still helps that they endorse it.
