Haven’t we known for a long time that this kind of stuff is counter productive?

  It's well known. I think it's hard with creative industries, especially since digital has sped things up and communications has allowed way more people to collaborate. Now you can have many more people making last minute changes...throughout the last 6 months of a project. I've heard lawyers talk about what it was like before fax machines. Turnaround on documents were expected to take a week because they went out through the mail. Now you can get a txt message and expect to turnaround in minutes--no matter where you are. It's just a tempting feedback loop and I feel like as a culture/society we need to set some boundaries.
