Yes this has been pretty much the trend of society over the last 40 years. The focus on career and work ebbs and flows in American society rising with the tides of individualism and ebbing when community and service come back into fold. We might be, or soon will be, at “peak career”. Same thing with being entrepreneur, at various times it’s been denigrated as well as lauded. Pretty disgusting though that career has even trumped things like citizenship. Pretty soon we’ll see things like “if your parents aren’t willing to sell both of their kidneys to fund your MBA...”
