Good question because google has killed so many other projects people do rely on (eg: google reader!)
- wybiral 9y agoThat was over four years ago. It's time to move on with your life. You'll meet other feeds and timelines...
- thrill 9y agoIt's still a sore spot. It was like a knife in the ribs. A really long knife. Serrated. And floppy. Spinning, too. Laced with Carolina Reaper sauce.
- thedaemon 9y agoWith the death of Google Reader, I completely stopped reading feeds. It killed a part of the internet for me.
- wybiral 9y agoSocial networks came in with their own version of what a "feed" is and then Push started to rise. So the old model of on-request feeds was probably on the downfall anyway.
- ldiracdelta 9y agoI found https://goread.io/ https://goread.io/ as my replacement. Doesn't have the intelligence to spotlight articles, but it does pretty well.
- gorbachev 9y agoFeedly is better than Google Reader ever was these days. The team there is also super responsive to issues.
- BrandoElFollito 9y agoI agree that Feedly is great (using it right now to reply). The support is however abysmal. I tried to raise two bugs for a year but nobody cared to reply. They are at par with JetBrains. In contrast, I did not have any hopes with Chrome but it ended up being worked upon.
- SirZimzim 9y agoSame here, I've tried feedly and a variety of local clients but it just didn't have the same charm. Now I just pop open HN, my automatic Google Now feed, and reddit occasionally.
- emorning2 9y agoNewsBlur is closest replacement I could find, been using it since Reader died. I like it.
- arsham 9y agoI'm using inoreader.com, it's really good.
- ortusdux 9y agoI still have the Reader bookmark next to Gmail's. Once or twice a year I click it accidentally and get angry all over again. It serves as a reminder to not put all my eggs in one basket.
- away2017throw 9y agoYeah, but this one G+ is useless so they will not kill it.
- Yetanfou 9y agoAll those who relied on Google for things like Reader are much better off running their own news aggregator (the Nextcloud "News" [1] app being a good example of such). Especially given the latest spate of censorship by the likes of Youtube (-> Google), Facebook, Twitter and others I'd say it is irresponsible to put this task into the hands of an entity like the aforementioned. Irresponsible both because there is no way of knowing what they decided to filter out of the news stream and because it makes it even easier to profile their users by tracking what you read, for how long you read it, etc. [1] https://apps.nextcloud.com/apps/news https://apps.nextcloud.com/apps/news
