Fighting Misinformation on the Web
HN (and /.) fam, we have a bumpy road of misinformation and web prosperity, all tangled together at the moment. My question is pretty simple, and I'm praying stronger algorithmic minds and nimbler typing keys shall uptake the challenge:
Can we make a service that combats misinformation on the web?
Before people bring up examples of similar services, I'm wondering if we can do something that is immediate [proactive, not reactive] and likely to be accepted by major players as something that A) does not inhibit freedom of speech and B) still ensures that people are not misinformed simply because money can buy wallspace/canvas time.
If not some sort of site/extension/clever logo with numerical "trustiness" ... are there some options out there that I'm not considering?
I love freedom of speech and press, but at the end of the day I want information of the highest quality. How can we ensure we all get high quality info, and can we help that process by making some sort of service that detects and highlights bullshit as it is?
