Blue Apron is not for people who want to _eat_, it's for people who want to _cook_ but don't want to shop, transport things home, or meal plan.
This is where the price premium is worth it to some people.
- marak830 9y agoWhile I disagree with the idea of people not wanting to shop for their ingredients, as a chef, I cannot help but get behind anyone that wants to learn how to cook. For the record I believe you have the nail on the head, as to the value of that service.
- gehwartzen 9y agoPeople sometimes think of cooking as just memorizing methods and rescipies and the buying those things. But you quickly just 'know' what ingredients and favors are good together and can identify most of the ingredients in something you eat at a restaurant and have a decent idea how to prepare something similar. I don't buy a bunch of portioned ingredients for a set of rescipies, just a lot of basic ingredients and some wild cards to keep it interesting. As long as you have a good set of spices, oils, and garnishes you can find some way to prepare your random leftover ingredients into something pretty good. I remember just hanging out with my mom/dad/grandparents when I was a kid watching and helping them cook. I always thought that was pretty standard along with watching and learning about all kinds of other household tasks. Is that not the case anymore? It just seems like such a basic life skill.
- chc 9y agoNot having to meal plan is bigger than a lot of people think. Most of the couples I know hate having to figure out what's for dinner.
- lscharen 9y ago100 times this. My wife purchased the Real Plan app and that has absolutely been the key to keeping us on track for cooking healthier. We avoid the dreaded, "What do you want?" questions around meals and the app's autogenerated shopping list has really helped us reduce food waste and avoid worrying that we're missing one or two ingredients when cooking a meal.
- chrisgd 9y agoGreat suggestion, Real Plan is great
- megaman22 9y agoThe best thing I've seen lately was a couple that took an old see'n'say and glued the names of local restaurants over the animals. Don't know where to go out for dinner? Pull the string, and let fate decide :-)
- MarkMMullin 9y agoAnother upvote - Hello Fresh for exactly those reasons - I know how to cook, I like to cook, but it comes with a lot of baggage - this lets me focus on the parts I like :-)
