Personally I think the biggest problem with bus maps is that when you get on a bus, you can't find one. The inside is plastered with advertisements and "public service announcements" telling you to go to the opera and not drink soda. Instead if could look at the wall (or grab a pamphlet) and see where I need to get off for my transfer, that would already be a huge improvement.
