This contamination has happened before with HeLa cells and the original "War on Cancer". It was an absolute disaster back then, and I'm aghast that the medical industry hasn't learned from this mistake. I actually am quite shocked and horrified that this has happened again. This means that many many human lifetimes of work are invalid. There's a great documentary by Adam Curtis on this exact topic.
