I just love the fact I can now charge my laptop and my phone using the same charger - and both charge super fast. I travel often and going with one charger is a life saver. Being able to charge my laptop from my old power bank to get two more hours is also super cool.
I remember discovering that some of my Micro-USB cables could only charge and couldn't transmit any data. I honestly don't understand why people talk about the issues with USB-C as if it was a new thing. Seems to me like most of the problems are theoretic and that most end-users are actually happy with the new standard.
- marcosscriven 9y agoI know it's extremely unlikely, I do wish Apple would move its phones and tablets to use USB-C too.
- iwintermute 9y agoI can't understand why they won't do it.
- narrowtux 9y agoI think 2 reasons: 1. They already have a lot of accessories for lightning and they would kinda lose that sweet 30 % MFi for 3rd party lightning accessories 2. A lot of people who don't know why USB C is great will probably bitch about how Apple is changing the port on the iPhone _again_, like they did when they switched from 30 pin to lightning. Could be a PR nightmare
- iwintermute 9y agoNo PR nightmare is bigger than loss of headphone jack - I imagine lot of people had great and expensive headphones that are no longer usable directly. Apple seems to survived that.
- cnkeller 9y agoIf memory serves, Apple had a licensing deal with Intel over the lightning port on the iPhones. I can't recall the expiration of the deal, but that's why the laptops already have USB-C and the phones/tablets don't.
