Sadly, Git won. BitKeeper solves a bunch of this stuff, not all, but a bunch but nobody cares. The reality is GitHub won. To 99.99% of the world version control is GitHub. Step outside of what GitHub can do and you get blank stares. If you want to play with BK, it's at bitkeeper.org, all open source, apache v2 license (because that seemed to be the license that most people liked, contact me if that doesn't work for you).
