Assuming you can motivate it decently, I think a course might be good... However, that's quite a different value proposition, so it might take a bit to convince my employees to do it -- whereas a 'I read this series of articles by this very knowledgeable guy' doesn't require much convincin'. To quote the infinite wisdom of The Simpsons: "Do what you feel" [is right]. :)
